Municipal College

BRIEF HISTORY

The TRINIDAD MUNICIPAL COLLEGE (TMC) was created in 1985 thru the concerted and joint efforts of private citizens and the Local Government Unit of Trinidad. Led by Mr. Paciano Petarco and Mr. Antero Delos Reyes and then Municipal Mayor Avelino N. Puracan, funds were accumulated to fuel the construction and acquisition of buildings and materials that made the college.

The courses offered failed to meet the educational needs of the populace, thus, it only lasted for only one semester. The plan of establishing a college whose courses could serve most of the students was realized on June 1985 when the incorporation was formed. The incorporators were instrumental to the registration of the college with the Securities and Exchange Commission as Trinidad Junior College.

On its birth, the following courses were offered:

• 2 years Diploma in Applied Technology major in Electricity and Constructions;
• 2 years Associate in Secretarial Administration;
• 2 years Automotive Mechanic Course; and
• 1 year General Clerical Course

In 1993, a degree of Bachelor of Arts was approved and recognized by the Department of Education Culture and Sports ( DECS). In 1996, the school suffered decrease of enrolment and depreciation of physical plant. In order to save the 12-year existence of the TJC, the administrators called for a meeting of all incorporators to solve the problems. The incorporators agreed and resolution was made to turn over the ownership, management, and control of the college to the Local Government Unit of Trinidad to save it rather than allow it to die naturally.

As of April 1, 1997, the college was under the LGU-Trinidad and the name of the college was changed to Trinidad Municipal College (TMC). The college continued existing with a new vision to give relevant education to the masses of Trinidad and northern towns of Bohol. Municipal Ordinance No. 2003-001, converting the Trinidad Junior College to Trinidad Municipal College from private non-stock, non-profit and non-sectarian higher education and technical-vocational institution to local government college was enacted last February 10, 2003.
